المفردات التالية لها صلة مباشرة بموضوع المحادثة التي سوف تستمع إليها.

School: an institution for educating children.

مدرسة: مؤسسة لتعليم الأطفال.

Kindergarten: a class or school that prepares children for the first year of formal education.

حضانة: فصل أو مدرسة تحضّر الأطفال للسنة الأولى من التعليم الرسمي.

Curriculum: the subjects comprising a course of study in a school or college.

مقرر: المواد التي تشملها دورة دراسية في مدرسة أو كلية.

Critical thinking: the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgement.

التفكير النقدي: هي القدرة على تقييم و تحليل الوقائع للوصول لإستنتاج معين.

Elective courses: courses a student takes by choice.

مقررات إختيارية: مواد يأخذها الطالب باختياره.

Enrolment: the act of putting yourself or someone else onto the official list of members of a course, college or university, or group.

التسجيل: وضع نفسك أو شخص آخر على القائمة الرسمية لأعضاء دورة، كلية، جامعة أو مجموعة.

Well, I've been thinking about your education, and I'm wondering if you might be interested in changing your school.

الأم: حسناً، لقد كنت أفكر بأمر تعليمك، و أتساءل إذا كنتِ مهتمة بتغيير مدرستك.

Daughter
Changing my school, why?

الإبنة: تغيير مدرستي، لماذا؟

Mother
There are a few reasons. First, I know you're not happy with the current curriculum. You've said that it's too focused on standardized testing and that you're not learning as much as you could be.

الأم: هناك بعض الأسباب. أولاً، أنا أعلم أنك لست سعيدة بالمنهج الحالي. لقد قلتِ أنه يركز على الإختبارات الموحدة كما أنكِ لا تستطيعين التعلم بقدر ما يمكن أن يكون.

Second, I know you're struggling to make friends. You've said that the kids at your current school are mean-spirited.

Daughter
Yeah, I've been feeling really lonely.

Mother
I'm so sorry to hear that, sweetie. I want you to be in a school where you're happy.

But what about my friends? I've been going to this school since kindergarten. I don't want to leave them behind.

Mother
I understand that. But you're growing up, and it's normal to make new friends. And besides, you'll still be able to keep in touch with your old friends.

Daughter
I guess so.

I don't know. It's a big decision.

الإبنة: لا أعلم. إنه قرار صعب.

Of course it is. But I want you to know that I'm here to support you no matter what you decide.

That's great! Why did you choose that school?

الأم: هذا عظيم. لماذا اخترتِ تلك المدرسة؟

Daughter
I liked their curriculum. It's more focused on critical thinking and problem-solving, and it offers a lot of different elective classes. I also liked their extracurricular activities. They have a lot of clubs and sports teams that I'm interested in.

الإبنة: لقد أحببتُ منهجهم. إنه يركز على التفكير النقدي وتحليل المشاكل، كما أنهم يقدمون عدة صفوف إختيارية. لقد أحببت أيضاً أنشطتهم اللامنهجية. عندهم الكثير من النوادي والفرق الرياضية التي تثير إهتمامي.

الام: أنا سعيدة لسماع ذلك. أعتقد أن تلك المدرسة ستكون الأنسب لكِ.

I'm so happy that I transferred to Harmash school. It's everything I wanted and more.

Mother
I'm so glad to hear that, sweetie. I knew it would be a good decision.

الأم: أنا سعيدة لسماع ذلك، عزيزتي. لقد علمتُ أنه سيكون قراراً جيداً.

Daughter
The new teachers are amazing. They're passionate about their subjects, and they really care about their students.

الإبنة: الأساتذة رائعون. إنهم شغوفون بإختصاصاتهم، و يهتمون فعلاً بأمر طلابهم.

Mother
That's wonderful.

الأم: هذا رائع.

Daughter
And I've already made a lot of new friends. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming.
